Stanley Biggs Clothiers was founded by Sophie Bainbridge, creating fully biodegradable vintage fashion.

The unique clothing brand has grown in popularity since its humble beginnings as an online retailer in 2019, offering a range of men’s clothing and accessories.

Now its first-ever physical store, located in the former library on Selston Road in Jacksdale, will finally open its doors to the public this Saturday (April 30).

The brand offers a range of 1930s-style men’s clothing and accessories.

“Be ready to step back in time as soon as you see the storefront,” said owner Sophie Bainbridge.

“If you love your old storefronts, then this is sure to earn a place in your heart. Not only does it look authentic, but the store also champions the building’s history and its connection to the community.

“As far back as many can remember, the building housed the library and so the store has been affectionately named ‘The Old Library’ to remember this part of its heritage.”

The vintage retailer has breathed new life into the old Tudor-style building, which opened in the village in 1923.

The store is designed to make customers feel like they’ve stepped back in time.

Eager to learn as much as possible about the history of the old building, the Stanley Biggs team began scraping away the stubborn layers of paint that covered the long glass sign in front of the store.

Sophie said: “After almost 90 years, we have revealed the beautiful sign of the original company.

“It confirmed the name of the store owner, a certain George Hardwick, as well as the business the store originally housed – a clothier and an outfitter! Does this story repeat itself?

A champion of British manufacturing, textiles and design, Stanley Biggs is a brand proud of its Midland roots and the region’s rich history.

The new store exudes character and charm.

“It’s a brand in love with history,” added Sophie.

“Each piece of clothing is named after a pioneer, adventurer, or great hall, many of whom are from the region.”

Residents and customers are invited to attend the inauguration of the store this Saturday (April 30) from noon.

Anyone who participates can be entered into a raffle, with the winner receiving a special Biggs cap.
